Dalberg Road

We were appointed to extend the existing kitchen to the side and to increase the existing downstairs cloakroom. Constraints set by the local planning authority meant the building height was limited at the neighbour boundaries however we were able to make the extension feel extremely spacious and bright.

In addition, this project created a discreet laundry cupboard off the hall at ground floor, upgraded and extended the 1st floor shower room, and rebuilt the existing terrace at first floor to give increased privacy.

After exploring a number of options for the layout of the ground floor and the best use of the extension, we worked to deliver the distinct choices of our client on particular elements, within an holistic and tranquil whole.

The original rear reception room was seen as a vital connection and an anteroom of the hall. A generous cloaks cupboard was designed to celebrate the existing decorative curves in the house, while comfortably leading the way to the modern and minimal kitchen.

Two crittall glazed doors have practical purpose for separation of the ground floor, while also giving both privacy and long views through the house.

The exposed steel structure and internal brickwork of the new extension give an awesome sense of the heavy duty raw materials of the house, while the sleek minimal kitchen with under counter hob extract, speaks of tidy modernity.

Natural clay plaster on the walls give a calm and sheltering feeling while contrasting subtlety with a white painted ceiling which reflects the crisp details of the kitchen and increases the sense of space.

The rear view illustrates the success of this project which achieves a sleek simplicity that is also warm and homely.
